REPORTS ON THE TULUWE AREA COUNCIL CLEANUP EXERCISE AT TULUWE MARKET
INTRODUCTION
The Tuluwe Area Council as part of efforts to help promote safe hygiene and sanitation practices in the Area Council, organized a cleanup exercise at the Tuluwe Market on Saturday, 6th November, 2021.
The purpose of this exercise was to bring forth the patronage of self-initiated activities, such as the promotion of a clean markets, and proper environmental health.
The Area Council had always received numerous complaints from concerned citizens as to the state of the market, and as means of tackling the issue, organized a cleanup exercise.
CLEANUP EXERCISE
The exercise took place at the Tuluwe Market and other portions along the major roads that needed cleaning.
The event began as early as 5:30 am with the sweeping of streets to avoid the busy hours of traffic. The exercise included the cleaning of gutters, weeding, sweeping, gathering and disposing of refuse etc. The volunteers were offered gloves, boots and nose masks for protection and also brooms, rakes, shovels, wheel barrows, cutlasses etc. by the Area Council to ensure that the exercise was done effectively without any health problems.
Participants of this clean up included the market traders, some members of the security services as well as a large group of citizen volunteers.
CONCLUSION
In addressing participants and volunteers at the end of the activity, the Area Council Chairman called for greater care to sanitation by the peoples.
The clean-up exercise was successfully carried out.
